HELP WITH BLOG

Blog and Workflow Guidelines

Let's break down your weekly tasks and how to share your progress. Dedicate one hour each day to these activities. Over two weeks, you'll earn 3 credits in your account.

Here's your weekly breakdown:

  1. Coursework (1 Hour): Choose one General Education course from the provided list (the "wreath of flowers"). Select a class you feel comfortable with, but you must make a choice.

  2. Patch Work: Select one patch to focus on and begin developing that skill. While the goal is to earn all badges eventually, those with the highest number of completed badges by the end of the 10-week period will receive a special title. Note that the Plant-Based Patch requires 24-hour care and must be completed once started (Growth phase). Choose this one carefully due to the time commitment.

  3. Elderly Assistance: Help an elderly individual who agrees to provide a positive video review of your assistance. This review, along with a video of you performing the task (showing them how to set up the recording and ensuring a good shot), needs to be submitted as proof of completion on your blog.

  4. Verse Reflection: Find one Bible verse that resonates with your week and reflects your current experiences. You can find resources in the student portal and, of course, in the Bible itself. Share this verse in your video blog, reading it aloud to receive credit.

  5. Weekly Test: You will receive one question each week from the General Education course you've chosen. The topic of the question will change every two weeks.

  6. Weekly Blog: Share your experiences in a video blog (under 3 minutes). Include:

    • Questions or insights from your General Education coursework.

    • Details about the assistance you provided to the elderly person.

    • Your progress on the chosen patch.

    • Your thoughts on the weekly test question (was it challenging?). Plan your content carefully to stay within the time limit. Consistent blogging will become easier with practice.

  7. Weekly Talk: We will meet every Saturday at a time that works for everyone (to be determined during the interview process). This weekly gathering is essential for sisterhood bonding and will primarily take place via Zoom or Google Meet. There may occasionally be opportunities for in-person slumber parties to foster deeper connections.

Your Weekly Blog Format: "RISE"

Each blog post must include the following:

  • 30 seconds: Video of you performing chores/caring for the elderly person.

  • 30 seconds: Video review from the elderly person.

  • 60 seconds: Showcasing the patch you are working on.

  • 60 seconds: Sharing your chosen verse and a brief recap of how it connects to your week.

Responding to Others' Blogs: Using the "RISE" Format

You are also required to respond to one other student's blog each week using the RISE format. Ensure you comment on a different person's work each week over the 10-week period (do not comment on the same person twice).

The "RISE" Format for Comments:

  • REFLECT: Share a thoughtful reflection on something the other student shared.

  • INQUIRE: Ask a relevant and insightful question about their post.

  • SUGGEST: Offer one constructive suggestion to help them improve their blog in the following week.

  • ELEVATE: Provide positive feedback, highlighting something you appreciated about their blog. Remember, feedback should always be positive.

Important Reminders:

  • Avoid procrastination. While the minimum time commitment is one hour per day, the effort you put in is directly for your benefit and learning.

  • There is no pressure to rush, as you are here to learn at your own pace. However, if you do not complete any tasks over a four-week period, you will be removed from the conference. You can still remain part of the organization but will need to wait until the next convention to receive your computer, and your computer will not be distributed in week 5 until your first five weeks of tasks are completed.

  • There are many General Education classes to choose from. It's recommended that you explore the options and select one area to focus on for two weeks. Remember, you need to have completed two areas (one General Education course section and one patch) by the end of the week. Once you make your selections, you must complete them within the two-week timeframe. You have the flexibility to engage with the material in a way that suits you best. The key is to complete one course, one patch, and one hour of community service with someone over 65 each week.

  • Don't forget the 30-second video of your service and the 30-second review for your blog. The entire service video section should not exceed 60 seconds, leaving you two minutes to recap your week. Stay within the 3-minute total time limit for your blog.

  • Your weekly 3-minute video blog, encompassing all required elements, must be completed and submitted by midnight on Friday. This is a requirement for credit, so good luck!
